Some Layout Issues 5 Days, 13 Hours ago Karma: 0
I am currently using Joomla v1.5.1. I have installed the Vector template. I have enabled the Legacy plug-in. I am having issues with some of the layout. You can go to www.OurFloridaButterflies.com to see the website. The biggest layout problem I have is the menu on the right side. When I go to the Template Manager and look at the details for the Vector template it says under the Menu Assignement "Menu: Cannot assign Default Template". I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

As a side note I tried to use your template guide but got confused. Some of the instructions didn't seem to line up with what I saw under Joomla 1.5.1. Like the existence of a OtherMenu module. It is not in the list under the Module Manager. It just might be my ignorance though.

Thank you for your help.

Some of the new ways Joomla 1.5 handles template editing the backend is not the same in Joomla 1.0 so the error about assigning default template is normal when you are using legacy mode. It just means you have to make edits directly to the index.php file, instead of being able to edit it the backend with J1.5.

Also a big difference with old and new Joomla is the module system. Before it was a bit complicated to add module names and positions. In the old Joomla there was a existing position called "Other menu". It was a matter of simply highlighting it and it was done. On the new Joomla if you do not see a module position you need, it is as easy as typing it into the drop-down, instead of clicking the drop down. I hope that makes sense.

As for your side menu, make sure it is setup as a "flat list" as a menu style under the menu module options. It look like something is not quite setup properly and that might be it. if not send me a super admin user/pass and I can look at it for you.

I already had set the menu to a flat list as instructed in the template guide. It seems to be a different issue that is causing the layout problems. It also seems that the style for the right menu title is not show up correctly like shown on your demo of the Vector template. I have spent at least 3-4 hours trying to troubleshoot and am not sure where to go from here. I am new to using Joomla and don't fully understand the administrative end but am picking it up. I might be missing something. Thank you for your help.

You had a module class suffix of _menu applied to the menu module. Once that was removed you are good.
