Adding a right column 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Can anyone give me some help as to adding a right column to this template? I want to keep the content area the same width, and add this to the right, stretching the top banner and header areas over the new width.

hi sejtraav,
adding a third column to serenity would require doing quite a lot of structural changes to the template. essentially what is involved is adding another div to the index.php (after the content div).

Then adjusting the content div's width, floating the #right div and replacing the faux background image on the #main div.

Once you have done that you would need to add the necessary css to float the right div.

Alternatively, if you are not that familiar with css, then rather take a look at our commercial templates that already have 3 columns.

Hope this helps

Cheers,
Chris

Yea, I tried to add the right column and realised how difficult it would be.
I know enough about css to do the second method you suggested, but the problem there is it would make the content are quite alot smaller, and i already have alot of images and other content set up for that width.
Another thing i could do is make the left column smaller, to give room on the right for a column, but i think this may render the columns so small they will be useless for what i want to put in them.

I'll guess I'll just stick with what I've got, loving the template besides that issue.

Yeah, its unfortunately not just a matter of adding a new column and floating it, unless you increase the overall width of the template. We are planning on doing some updates or maybe even a whole new version of serenity, sometime over the next few months - but it will more than likely still be a 2 column template.

Cheers,
Chris

Do you know what changes will be made in these updates or new versions?

hi sejtraav,
we have not yet finalized what will be included, but the biggest change will that it will be 1.5 native. we have a lot on our plates at the moment, working on getting our latest release out, as well as fine tuning the new site and updating our existing templates, so we don't have an exact date / timeline of when this will be available.

your best bet is to signup for our newsletter, as we will be sending out updates regularly.

cheers,
chris
