Menu problem using Fireboard forum component 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I'm using Joomla! 1.5 with Fireboard 1.0.4 stable
My problem is that the site side menus don't appear when going into our Fireboard forum, whether set left or right.
The suckerfish menu at the top displays properly.
The problem doesn't occur with Joomla!'s supplied demo templates (Milky Way and Beez).
The menu is configured to appear alongside this component. The space exists for it... but no menu appears.
Can you give us any pointers as to how we can solve the problem?
Otherwise, the Rational Magic template is all we wanted it to be. We're very impressed. In five weeks of developing a website project, this is the first time we've had a need that we haven't been able to satisfy within minutes. Regards,

Hi Mark. Glad we could help.

It sounds to me like you have not changed the configurable sidebars option in the index.php. Look over the guide where it says "configurable sidebars"
In a nutshell the settings you need to adjust are here. Yours looks like this currently:

Code:

#
// Use the following option for quick off LEFT and RIGHT positions displaying.
#
//By default
#
'default'=>'left-content',
#
// specify extra options for different components
#
// if you do not write left or right - these positions wont be published
#
// left-right-content | right-left-content | content-right-left | content-left-right
#
// left-content-right | right-content-left
#
// right-content | content-left | left-content | content-right
#
'com_myblog'=> 'left-content',
#
'com_fireboard'=> 'content',
#
'com_content'=> 'content-right',
#
'com_frontpage' => 'left-content-right', <--(Joomla 1.0 only)
#
'com_weblinks' => 'left-content',
#
'com_contact' => 'left-content',
#
);
#
?>

And you probably want this. You will see I changed the com_fireboard setting.
Code:

#
// Use the following option for quick off LEFT and RIGHT positions displaying.
#
//By default
#
'default'=>'left-content',
#
// specify extra options for different components
#
// if you do not write left or right - these positions wont be published
#
// left-right-content | right-left-content | content-right-left | content-left-right
#
// left-content-right | right-content-left
#
// right-content | content-left | left-content | content-right
#
'com_myblog'=> 'left-content',
#
'com_fireboard'=> 'content-right',
#
'com_content'=> 'content-right',
#
'com_frontpage' => 'left-content-right', <--(Joomla 1.0 only)
#
'com_weblinks' => 'left-content',
#
'com_contact' => 'left-content',
#
);
#
?>

Thanks, Matt.
We'll follow your advice and report back with the results.
I'll also gladly add a testimonial regarding Rational Magic as it's been so good to us so far and will enable us to provide our charity client community with something very impressive and functional, we feel.
Please send my love to Cape Town. Must visit soo.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah I gotta visit too. Cape Town looks a lot nicer then Ohio(USA) where I live. Chris and Andrew are the lucky ones in the eternal vacation city.
