JoomlaJunkie - Joomla Template Provider Bringing color to the Joomla community

To change the fpss setting in index.php (I presume you mean the template file) the permissions have to be changed. From my CP, upon the attempt to do that, I receive the message : "chmod failed: Operation not permitted".

What do I do to correct this?

Your server is making the web server the owner when it installs the template, this is common with joomla when installing modules and templates. There are loads of forum posts that explain this also I think there is something on joomla.org.


The easiest way to overcome this - mainly because the cpanel and ftp clients dont work is to install a component called Joomlaxplorer that allows you to browse to the template folders and change the permissions.

Where are you trying to change the permissions? When installing a template through Joomla! the "ownership" of the files are set to Joomla. Trying to change the file in your ftp client would usually result in getting the error you mentioned. Though, that being said this is not an exact science (to me at least) and sometimes you need to try a different approach to achieve the end result. Try installing a component called Extplorer (you can find the download link by googling it). If that still doesnt work, trying through your hosting control panel. As a last resort i find emailing your hosting company usually works too
