SEO issue / improvement - content above css menu 6 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
One thing I've read is that it's better to have articles and other such content as close to the top of the rendered browser source file. This way, the search engines find the relevant content sooner and, as I understand things, some search engines give more weight to content that is 'earlier' in the source.

Given the above, if you have a complex css menu, the actual page content can end up way down in the page source.

Is there anyway to adjust the Origin template such that the header menu content is lower in the source but the header menu is still displayed in default position in the browser?

In other words, the user wouldn't notice a difference but the search engines would.

This is actually really important for us.

Thanks super much

Hi AN,
Sorry for only replying now, i completely missed your post! I actually remember starting to reply, but thats as far as i ever got.

Regarding your question, source ordering is definitely important and something we also try to keep in mind, but the navigation is usually not something that is included in this. The elements that are usually source ordered is the primary content, secondary content (sidebar 1) and tertiary content (sidebar 2). I stand to be corrected, but as far as i am aware the top links are good for SE's spidering your site.

Also added to the equation that there is no easy / simple way to do this - without using absolute positioning - which is not a viable option

Hope that makes sense..

Cheers,
Chris
