I am trying to display additional content along with the form which the contact us component displays.

I am going about this in the form of some custom modules but I can't get them to display.

Then I noticed that on Ario Lite template, you can't get ANY other modules to display in the left, right, or any other positions, on the Contact Us page.

However if you change templates,like to SolarFlare, and test the same, you can now control what displays on page or menu choice "Contact Us".

Why is this?

If you want to display something on the left or right position, you have to modify your index.php file in your template folder.

See line 35 (J1.0 version) or line 38 (J1.5 version).
just modify this line:

'com_contact'=> 'content', TO 'com_contact'=> 'left-content',

if you wish to publish something in the 'left' position...

That's just an example... See lines 30 to 34 in your index.php to see what you can use...
(See lines 33 to 37 if J1.5 version).

It's very simple.

As Regis mentioned, you need to modify the settings to show the left sidebar. This is actually a feature of the template so please see the setup guide for more information on configurable sidebars.

The point is to give you the flexibility to choose a layout per component based on what you set in the options. There are also a few other forum posts about this.
