Another IE6 issue 5 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I have read and followed the various IE6 problems/fixes that have been raised here but seem to have a slightly different issue.

When a child menu item is added the dropdown works fine in Firefox and IE7 but in IE6 the dropdown appears to fall behind the images in the header Image Rotator and so are not "clickable".

As the site is currently in use I have assigned Special access to the menu item but can change this temporarily if you need to have a look.

If only IE6 wasn't still used by so many people!

I noticed the same and I had to unpublish the image rotator as a quick fix. I'm also looking for a solution.

Hi guys,
Just to clarify.. pete.x - you are using the header image rotator and phedlund, you are using the default joomla image rotator?

Have either of you tried using the simple image rotator from JoomlaWorks.gr? We had someone using the simple header rotator before and had issues, then tried the simple image rotator and that worked fine..

Cheers,
Chris

My comment is based on using the JW Simple Image Rotator (as this is the module that you recommend in this forum) but I have also tried the AJAX Header Rotator (by JoomlaWorks.gr as well) and X-Banner from WebX Solutions. All of these suffer from the same problem as the dropdown menu is hidden by the images.

Another poster to this forum (http://whitesharksteam.clanfree.net) suggested that by changing to the JW Simple Image Rotator the problem had been fixed but I have just checked this site in IE6 and the issue occurs there as well so it doesn't seem to be just me on this one.

I can only see three ways round this problem :

1) Do nothing - and alienate all IE6 users (I know they should upgrade but numbers don't lie)

2) Replace the rotating header with a static image (Kind of defeats the object of adopting a template that was promoting this function)

3) Move the top menu bar below the header picture (as in Absolute Flush) - I think this will detract from the whole look and feel though.

Any other thoughts or suggestions will be gratefully received as my menu bar is becoming overcrowded and unwieldy

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete,
There is actually one more point you left out of your list of options:

4) Figure out what is causing this and fix it (thats where we come in )

I have a feeling it has something to do with the top menu being set to relative.. If you can provide me with a temp super admin login for your site i will see if i can figure it out.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

I notice that you have accessed our site but have not heard anything further concerning this issue.

I noticed that a bug had been reported regarding long menus falling behind the body content so have tried the fix that was reported there (removal of a line from the template_css,css file) but this does not help.

Since growing weary of this IE6 issue I have re-installed IE7 and find that the same thing is happening there (even though I am sure that it worked previously).

Additionally in IE7 I am getting image placeholders for child menu items in the left column that are supposed to be displaying indent1.png and this file is not in the images folder.

Any bright ideas would be welcomed

Pete
