Answered: Problems with SuperSlider in Safari & Firefox

What is your live site URL? (localhost if none): waldorf.metaphor.ca
What browser does this happen in: Firefox 3.x, Safari
What version of Joomla: Joomla 1.5
What OS? (your computer, not your server): Mac
Joomla experience level: 5

I am having problems with superslider in Safari and Firefox, kind of a disappointment.

1 No navigation arrows

2 Titles and captions are not overlaid on the large image as in the demo page

3 I am also having problems with portions of the site on top of the superslider

see attached

Thanks Rick, your help is hugely appreciated.

Your second suggestion has solved my most difficult problem.

Merci

2) In the module, under Advanced Parameters, you can try to enable the "Load CSS inline" item - if your CSS is not loading correctly that may work.

I looked at your site and do not see the Slider. We can't look over your problem without it enabled.

Well the first thing I see wrong is the css for the slider isn't getting called. Thats why it is not getting styled.

Click the image to open in full size.

Next up is discovering why.

Have you changed any of the default settings under the advanced tab for the Slider module?

Click the image to open in full size.

Are your permissions set properly? Did you upload the slider module via Joomla or manually via FTP? A 500 error means a variety of things depending upon your host, but file permissions or a misconfiguration is the most common reason.

Hi There thanks for your feedback, I have reinstalled super slider and it now shows, except now it is overlapping onto the article below.

As before, the captions and titles and nav need to be on transparent boxes on the image rather than bumped off the top and bottom.

I am not an extensively experienced programmer, but I can get through this with a little help.

thanks

Erm, reinstalling won't do much of anything. Same questions still apply though.

-Have you changed any of the default settings under the advanced tab for the Slider module?
-Are your permissions set properly?
-Did you upload the slider module via Joomla or manually via FTP?

A 500 error means a variety of things depending upon your host, but file permissions or a misconfiguration is the most common reason. As you can see in the above screenshot the css file for the superslider is not being pulled in. That is why it does not look right.

Ok
Default settings have not been changed

Permissions I'm not sure, this is a fresh Joomla install with no changes. Are there specific permissions I should check?

I installed Superslider through Joomla

Hi Matt, I have still not been able to solve my superslider problems.

I have configured a new website with a fresh joomla install, a mocha template and a superslider install

the url I am working on is: Welcome to the Frontpage

I am having the following problems still....

1 no arrows
1 no transparent text boxes on top of the pictures

I want to have my superslider in the same position as your Mocha Template. I have specified "user1" as the position but it doesn't seem to be in the correct position

2 how can I get rid of the search box above on the top right hand corner. Disabling search doesn't work, is it part of the header graphic?

3 Image sizes
What is the optimal width of superslider image so that it fits nicely within the Mocha template

I appreciate your hasty response as I would like to get this working ASAP.

metabern,

I'll try to help out if I can...

1) I use an image width of 958px on the Mocha template (although I use the JoomlaWorks rotator).
2) In the module, under Advanced Parameters, you can try to enable the "Load CSS inline" item - if your CSS is not loading correctly that may work.
3) Make sure the Module Class Suffix says "nopadding" (no quotes)

I think Matt probably has it right that its a permissions error, though. I would start by checking the permissions on the folder "ROOT/modules/mod_jj_superslider/" and all subfolders.

I realize I forgot to answer one part - yes, the searchbox is part of the image and needs to be removed with Fireworks or similar.
