Unanswered: Fix and modification for J1.5 SimpleTocker

I've not been able to get the ticker module working at all.

After a little digging I found that the javascript was being put into the <head> via JDocument. To make the ticker work the javascript needs to be published in the body. I think this might have been the result of updating the module. Should it work when the scripts are published in the <head>?

I've also modified the ticker to allow you to publish RSS feed categories. Would you be interested in seeing my modified version?

HI Matt

Yeah js is supposed to be the head in most cases. Are you running SimpleTicker as well as SimpleSlider or anything else using jQuery? If so you need to disable the jQuery in the SimpleTicker module settings and everything should be dandy. jQuery doesnt liek it when you try to call two instances at once.

Sure we would love to see your mod. Just attach it here to the forum.

Hi Matt.

That's the strange thing - this happens whether jQuery is disabled or not in the module. I'm not publishing it with anything else either. I do have the modalizer plugin but it's not loading jQuery.

I actually got the idea to publish the scripts in the body because that's how it's published on your mocha demo site - Welcome to the Frontpage . Something has changed between publishing the demo site and making the ticker available for download. However, I'm not sure that the change works cos I can't get it to!

Here's the updated module. Let me know what you think....

Hey Matt,
How did this play out?

I am looking for a news scroller, and would really like to know...

The attached mod gives me an error: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/.../modules/mod_jj_simpleticker/mod_jj_simpleticker.php on line 57. I like that this version has the option to insert static strings.

Best,
Ken

With Morph and all the stuff going on lately, SimpleTicker has not received teh attention it deserves. it is going to be completely re-factored in the near future. Until then the default module works fine on my localtests. Does it not work for you?

Hey Matt, Yeah, the SimpleTicker does work. Sorry. I thought that the OP was implying that it had some flaw, and that his version was better.

Best,
Ken

Clarification

Hi

When I installed SimpleTicker (a long time ago) it was with the Mocha template as per the demo. Unforunately, it did not work when publishing the javascript in the head which was the default behaviour. I also modified the ticker so that various different sources could be used. Static text wasn't really what I was looking for.

My version is running here: Sheffield Kidney Institute
