Answered: Format of Firstname Lastname in SimpleContact

What is your live site URL? (localhost if none): localhost
What version of Joomla: Joomla 1.5

Why does the Module produce the contact's name like Fred-smith instead of Fred Smith or some other more standard format?

What do I have to edit? The CSS is already Capitalize, but the code is concatenating the names before the capitalize, so it's not producing a proper Firstname Lastname.

Thanks,
Ken

Ok, i've updated the downloads with the new version, upgraded the version on your site and confirmed that the issue is fixed now. I essentially had to write a new function to split the name, so the place holder #n outputs the contacts first name.

I'm not sure why yours is displaying like that - i just tested it on my dev install and as you can see in the screenshot (Viewing Firefox details :: Ember) it's not doing that at all. Check the format of the name in your Joomla contact that you are displaying - maybe its set like that in the contact.

Thanks, Chris. It looks like the default Contacts component is making an alias, fred-smith from Fred Smith. Even if I try to overwrite the alias with Fred Smith, I Save then re-open it in the Component, and the alias is back to fred-smith. Then you guys capitalize in the CSS and I end up with Fred-smith.

The site is brand new 1.5.18.

Is there a switch in the module to use the name instead of the alias, or to allow choosing. That would isolate the module from any weirdness in the Contacts component.

Thanks,
K

It shouldnt be using the alias to begin with. I checked my 1.5.6 install and its definitely using the Title, not the alias. I'm upgrading my dev site to see if its something that maybe changed in 1.5.8. Will report back once its done :)

Upgrading to 1.5.18 didnt change anything. Here are some screenies of my settings:

Not sure what else i can suggest, as i'm unable to recreate the issue you are having - unless you put the site online so i can take a look.

Ahhhhhh, now i see what you mean. I thought you were referring to the actual contacts name at the top of the module. Good news is i managed to fix the issue and am now packaging up a new version. I'll update your site once i'm done :)
