Answered: allow_url_fopen

I am looking at the Morph system requirements and see that allow_url_fopen=on must be enabled. My host does not support allow_url_fopen, as follows:

"Our PHP configuration does NOT support, for security reasons:

allow_url_fopen
allow_url_include
register_globals"

And makes this recommendation:

"For security reasons, LuxSci does not allow the use of URLs as files, and therefore some PHP commands like fopen will not work. If you need to read the contents of a URL, an alternative would be to use the cURL function, documented here:

http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.curl.php"

Is a this something that you can accommodate?

Hi,

I've just got confirmation from our devs that allow_url_fopen is an old requirement, and our documentation has been updated accordingly.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention. :)

Cheers,
Tess

Hi,

I've forwarded this thread to our developers. They will be back in the office on Monday, so will then look into the information you've been given from your hosting company. Sorry about the delay, but it's the first time I see this issue and I'd rather let the devs chime in on this topic. :)

Cheers,
Tess

Hi,

As far as I can remember, this is an old requirement. Please download Morph and Configurator from www.getmorph.org and give it a try. I could not find any trace of us using the function in Morph and can recall us reviewing this a while back.

I have also just tested it on my morph dec site locally and disabled "allow_url_fopen" in my php.ini and everything was still working properly.

So please, give it a try, if its still a limitation, we will look into what we need to do to accommodate, but please let us know if it works.

Andy
