Answered: 10 questions about membership

Sorry to ask things so basic that I must presume that the answers are spelled out somewhere on your web site, but I searched, really, all over your site for a clear statement of rights of membership or a copy of the agreement that goes with a membership and came up empty or confused.

Also, it seems like the term "subscription" and "membership" are used interchangeably in different places, but I am left unsure if they are interchangeable. Might help if you clarify this, or do a quick search-and-replace on your content to make your wording is consistent.

1) When a membership expires, what exactly expires with it?

In one of the FAQ's, it seems that a purchased "template" can still be used after membership expires.

2) In JJ-speak, however, is a "template" the same thing as a themelet?

3) Will a "themelet" run independently of the Morph framework? Will a "template"?

4) Does the right to use the Morph framework expire with membership?

5) Does the right to host anything developed under Morph expire with membership, even when enough domains were initially included with the membership plan?

6) Only the support expires?

7) Of course, the most worrisome possibility is that domain licenses are not perpetual and expire with membership. Do they?

8) Maybe this is too nosy, but how is your rights management implemented?

9) More to the point, will a site developed under Morph go down if the framework or themelet or whatever can not maintain a conversation with your server?

10) Lastly, a free membership is listed plainly as an option, but again my search for the obvious came up null. I was interrupted during an on-line test drive, and when I had a chance get back to it, I could not log in again. What is the story with free memberships? Last I saw, one could get one by emailing Tess, but hey.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us about this.

When your Joomlajunkie membership expires you lose access to downloads and support. This means you no longer have access to new updates of our products, until you renew your membership.

You can still use any downloaded products for your sites (we will never demand you to have an active membership to continue using the products you've downloaded during your membership).

The Morph framework is a bit different, as we just licensed it under GPL and made it free: http://getmorph.org (still under construction, but we'll publish more info on our blog as soon as the site is officially ready)

This means you can always get the latest updates of the Morph template, Configurator component and the Vanilla themelet. All other themelets will still only be available for active Joomlajunkie members.

A themelet is not the same as a template. A template is the "old" way of doing things, and will run on Joomla on it's own. Themelets are dependent on the Morph framework. This might sound more complicated, but it's the opposite; running on a framework means better compatibility with other extensions (less javascript conflicts etc), un-comparable flexibility for your website layouts, and most importantly: speed and seo optimized. It's the better way of handling your website development, which is why most of the major template clubs are going the framework route.

Regarding if your site will go down if no contact with our server: we've implemented checks in the Morph framework to avoid this, so your site will not experience any hickups if our server is down etc. The contact with our server is mainly for you to get notified about new updates to the Morph framework, which you can see in the Configurator info shelf.

Regarding free membership, we're not fond of using captchas, which means we got hit by spam signups and chose to take off the free membership on the signup form. Please let me know if you would like me to register a free membership for you and I'll set one up for you. Please send me a private message with your email address and preferred username (click on my name above my photo, and then click "send private message")

I hope the above answer your questions? Let me know if there's anything else and I'll reply. :)

Cheers,
Tess

Free membership

Thanks for all that, Tess. I'll bet I am not the only one who was wondering about at least some of it.

It seems that since I am unregistered, and the reason for that being that I want to try it before buying a membership, and registration requires buying a membership, I do not thus have the PM option, so I will have to email you directly.

I will try the address I found in another one of your postings. If you don't see that message, ummm, I'm not sure . . . . okay, in that case, reply to this posting to that effect, and I'll just pay up, I guess.

But if you guys are going to continue publicizing the free membership option, it should be possible to get that without first having a paid membership, eh?

Hi,

I think it was your email I just replied to? :)

Regarding the free membership (for anybody reading this thread):

A free membership does not give you access to any of our commercial themes, only to the free extensions.

The Morph framework is now available for free at http://getmorph.org/ and there you will also be able to download the blank Vanilla themelet (useful for when you want to apply your own design, i.e. create your own themelet)

Support for Morph, or any of our commercial themelets, is not available under a free membership. To get full access to downloads and support, you need a minimum of a Copper membership (USD 49).

I hope the above helps. :)

Cheers,
Tess

PS Best way to contact us for pre-sales questions, is via our ticket system: JoomlaJunkie contact center
