Hi famdre,

While 1.7 is the latest stable release, Joomla 1.5 is the latest long-term supported version and still the version used by a majority of Joomla sites. The upcoming long-term supported Joomla version is Joomla 2.5, planned to be released in the beginning of next year. At about the same time Joomla 1.7. will reach its end of life (which is before 1.5 reach end of life).

You can read more about the development strategy for Joomla here: Infographic: Joomla CMS Development Strategy :: Joomla! Community Magazine?

We are converting the Morph framework and all its themelets to 1.7 to prepare for 2.5, but it's not yet ready for public release. The changes between 1.5 and 1.7 are huge, which means it's a lot of work. That said, the step from 1.7 to 2.5 is said to not be as big. This is why we're keeping our eyes on 2.5 to be ready for the next long-term supported Joomla version.

If we're ready before Joomla 2.5 (which we're planning to be), there will be more information on our blog, twitter account plus sent out to our members and newsletter subscribers.

I hope the above makes sense, and explains why we've taken this approach?

Cheers,
Tess
