Looking for help with a IE login error please

Users of IE6 and 7 cannot login to the site if WWW is in the URL

With no WWW, no problem. In Firefox/Safari, no problem in either case

When you try to login, the same screen just loads afterwards. It is the same whether SEF is on or off.

See here and try with username and password: peanut

For information:

.HTACCESS is:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ukstage2.ca [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.ukstage2.ca/$1 [L,R=301]

Joomla config is:

var $live_site = 'http://www.ukstage2.ca';

And still, the issue persists

Hi Drjjw

Sorry there is no more suggestions. Have you tried other htaccess redirects? I personally use this one, but it redirects to non-www:

Code:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.website.com$
RewriteRule ^/?$ http://website.com [R=301,L]
Is this issue in any template? Just in Joomla?

Nope.

Mystified by this problem.

I've had 2 other developers look at it. And I just tried your redirect (in reverse). Didn't work

Im not sure what to tell you then Drjjw. Your question sounds better suited for the Joomla.org forums to help you get to the bottom of your issue.

Hi again Jordan,

I'm sure you've already tried, but have you cleared your cookies in the browsers where you experience the problem?

Cheers,
Tess

Hi Tess,

Thanks for following up.

Yes I have done that.

There is very little I have not tried. It has been one the more mystifying problems I've ever had with Joomla.

Hi Jordan,

Can you please give us the url to your post on the joomla.org forum and we'll spread the word to other Joomla developers around the globe. There has to be a solution...and we're probably all gonna laugh about how simple it is (at least when you know the answer) ;)

Thanks,
Tess

Sweet Mary Mother of All Things Joomla!!!!!!

I have (I think) solved the problem.

Somehow, I had renamed my public_html/logs folder as /log (i.e. no 's')

I don't know why, but restoring to /logs seems to have helped. No idea why it would help, but I have given up trying to understand IE6/7!!

Thanks all!

Umm.

Don't plan the victory parade.

The login failure has returned. Makes me wonder if its a caching issue of some kind.

It's beyond me
