| Strange Joomla Admin Menus issue
Sorry in advance... this issue isn't related to Morph... I'm in a pickle with a Joomla Admin interface issue. The Joomla.org Forum has not responded to the below post as of yet... anyone with advice or assistance, or a fix (!), it's greatly appreciated. Configuration: Joomla!: 1.5.15 PHP: 5.2.6 MySQL: 4.1.25 Host: Media Temple Yesterday, my 1.5.15 installation of Joomla stopped displaying the Menus in the Menu Manager drop down (other than the default Menu Manager and Menu Trash). When clicking on the Menu Manager drop-down link, there are no menus listed. I checked my MySQL database, and the menu's are all still there (and that makes sense, since the site is still working fine in all browsers, even with their cache tossed). The mod-menu module is published, and I've dumped Joomla's cache multiple times. I've looked on this forum and on G**gle for anything related to this issue, and came across only one that looks to be the potential issue, BUT it doesn't fit my profile: an incompatibility with 1.5.14 and PHP 5.3.0. I'm at 1.5.15 (which supposedly fixes the incompatibility with PHP 5.3.0) and PHP 5.2.6. So, I did a fresh install of Joomla 1.5.15 with a new database in another directory and the Menu works just fine and shows whatever I add to it. But when I point the fresh install of Joomla to my previous MySQL database, the Menu issue returns. So, that leads this new-ish Joomla user to believe that the trouble is in the database tables...(?). Any clues? Does my mod-menu table or some other table need to be fixed? (I did optimize the mod-menu on PHPAdmin, but doing so did nothing to fix the issue). Frustrating. I"m tempted to ask if my host provider (media temple) can put me on PHP 5.3.0, to see if that fixes the issue. Thanks in advance, Matt |

Sorry Matt. Not many ideas. Have you tried taking the database and files and pulling them all down and trying them on your local setup or on a another host? That would help you discover if its a site/joomla issue, or if its a host issue. |

| Working again You'll be happy to note that the Menu Manager list drop-down has re-appeared as of this morning. Something is flakey -- some strange compatibility issue with the latest version of Joomla (1.5.15) and my host's version of PHP 5 (5.2.6 at the moment). I hate to just say, "It's working, so I'll ignore the problem," but for now, I'm happy to see the menu's once again. Just as a matter of my knowledge base, does Joomla run a maintenance script at all? I'm just so curious as to why the menu list has re-appeared -- I didn't change a thing from my initial post. Thanks any way, Matt | |

One more thing. I don't want to come off sounding like a know it all jerk or anything, but having a local install is a necessary tool in your box. It's pretty simple to do and generally the safe way to do upgrades or maintenance on the main site. It's also a easy way to see if there are hosting issues. If you do not want to do a local install for some reason, there are lots of free hosts out there that will fit your sandbox needs for one or two sites. Thats just my 2 cents worth. :) | |
