JoomlaJunkie on Tour in the US! Suggestions Pls!

Hi guys / gals :)
As some of you already know, both myself and Andrew have been invited to present at the awesome CMS Expo in Denver, Colorado (4th & 5th of December).

We are trying to decide on an action plan for our trip to the US and so far we have decided to fly to Denver on the 3rd, spend 3 days there for the expo, then on to Vail for 2 days of skiing.

After Vail we are toying with the idea of doing a road trip to California and up the coast to Washington (at which point Andrew will fly back to South Africa and i will continue on to Miniapolis to see my family).

Does anyone have any suggestions for us? Things to consider? Is it even practical going the road trip route? How long would a trip like this take? What can we expect to pay for things?

Any suggestions or ideas would be most appreciated!!!

I have slapped together a basic map of the route we are considering taking...

Thanks!
Chris

Looks like a fun route. I grew up along the Northern California coast. Beautiful drive but very curvy along Highway 1. Just don\'t plan on going extremely fast! During December it will be a bit chilly and usually pretty foggy but not nearly as cold as Denver. Little River beach in the town of Mendocino, Ca. is a good place for a picnic and a chilly dip. If you have time, the Skunk Train in Fort Bragg, Ca. is a really cool ride through the redwood forests. In the town of Ukiah, Ca. there is a sandwich shop called \'The Bottle Shop\'. They have the best sourdough sandwiches in the world!

I live in Utah now. The drive from Denver across to central Utah can be a bit dicey that time of year because of the snow in the high mountains you\'ll be driving through. Not too bad as long you\'re not in a hurry. As you head from central to southern Utah the highway patrol in that region like to give tickets to speeders. Even 3 mph over the speed limit. They\'re usually easy to spot though.

Getting from Provo, Utah to San Diego along this route takes about 11 hours. It\'s a little longer than that from San Diego to Ukiah, Ca. You probably want at least a week just for the Denver to Washington portion and that would probably still feel a little rushed and be tiring.

Are you absolutely sure about car rental prices Chris? The rate you stated seems....well...terribly wrong.
I am thinking more like 30 bucks a day for the car.
If Sandflea is right, then 8 days or so for travel. (google says 3 days but thats nonstop)
Then gas is 3 bucks a gallon and around 3,895 miles.

That adds up to about 824 bucks if you get 20 mpg. (my math may be wrong)

I did a real fast route in Google. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sadd...17&ie=UTF8&z=5

Well, darn, it looks like I\'m too late to be of any help. I\'m two hours north of Santa Barbara and was initially inspired to sign up here because I love the Rational Magic template so much for a California website I\'m redesigning. I hope your road trip became a reality and hope you enjoy your stay here in my favorite state. Nights and early mornings have been pretty chilly this past week, but overall, the days have been sunny and beautiful. The drive from here (San Luis Obispo) north on Highway 1, through Big Sur and Monterey, to San Francisco is amazing.

I think the road trip got shelved. He got detoured to Vale Colorado, and then is taking a stop by Columbus Ohio via a plane to do some work at my place before Christmas.

Good info though. It\'s been a sweltering 25 degrees with snow here in Columbus. :)
