Major updates coming to JoomlaJunkie - input needed!

Posted by: Chris Rault in thoughtssite updatesnewsjoomlajunkie

We’ve been planning for the future. Take a look at our vision! And let us know what you want…

Over the past couple of weeks, all of us at JoomlaJunkie have been doing a lot of thinking about where we are now and where we want the business to be in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years from now, etc. We have already seen a major difference in the site by giving it all of our focus and this is something we would like to expand on. We are working furiously to tighten the screws wherever possible, refine our templating processes and further develop our template framework. In order to do this we need to make a couple of big changes to our business model. We are hoping the end result will be a much better user experience, faster releasing of templates with every aspect of the business running like a well oiled machine. Below are a couple of things that we are considering and would like your feedback on. Please get stuck into the discussion and let us know your thoughts!

What do you want to see in our templates?

We are always looking for ways to refine our code, simplify wherever possible and generally improve anything that can be improved on. In order to do this properly, we need to set ourselves certain benchmarks. We need feedback and input from the people that matter most - you. What are the things that you think are important and should be included in every template? What are the "nice to haves" and what are things that could be done better? In a demo, what is it that you would like to see, in order to see a template’s full potential?

The more we can get this process and system in place, the sooner we will have new sexy templates flying out the door! :0)

Backwards compatibility for new templates?

What with Joomla! 1.5 being more widely adopted and based on the feedback we have received thus far, we are considering two major changes in the near future. One is deciding whether to provide backward compatibility (i.e. developing and supporting 1.0.x versions of each template) for our new templates. If we decided to focus all of our energy into 1.5 only templates it means that we are able to move forward and take full advantage of the exciting new templating features of 1.5. Having to develop a template twice, for the same CMS is not only counter productive, but also more overhead. That being said, if there is still a market for 1.0.x templates, it would be silly for us to ignore that. We are hoping to get a discussion going between us and you (our community). So tell us what you think.

Template shop & club vs club only?

Another possibility we’re considering is changing JoomlaJunkie to Club only. The reason for this is it simplifies the release process, allows tighter integration by not needing two separate sites and would improve the overall user experience of the site. Also, there is not a big difference between the individual template prices and the personal club subscription - which gives users a lot more value for their money.

Updates to club subscription pricing

We have tried to keep our prices as low and reasonable as possible and this is still our strategy, but due to infrastructural costs, staffing, etc we have decided to adjust our current club pricing. We still feel that we are extremely competitive and offering excellent value for money. The new pricing will take effect from the 1st of July 2008, so if you aren't already a member be sure to signup before then to take advantage of the old pricing!
