Template Guide - Flex Photos

To make sure your template is setup correctly, please make sure you read through the template guide thoroughly. We have made the template as customisable as possible and all our css is fully commented.

Before You Start:

Once you have successfully downloaded your template, you will need to extract the zip archive to your local computer, using a free archive utility like 7zip (PC) or MacZip (Mac), extract the contents on the zip (named something along the lines of "ExtractMe-TemplateName.zip" onto your computer.

First of all, lets start by explaining whats included in your download and how we have structured the files. In the main folder that you have just extracted to, you should have the following folders:

  • Template (This includes the color template zip file that you would use to install only the template)
  • Source Files (These are the Fireworks source files that we designed the template in. If you dont have a copy of Fireworks, you can always download a trial version from the Macromedia site here.)
  • Modules (This includes the module to be installed in order for the login to function correctly)

Step 1.) Installing just the Template and the template config.

  1. Go to "Installers > Template Site"
  2. Browse for the template zip file in the Template folder.
  3. Click "Upload File and Install".
  4. Click "Continue..."
  5. In the Template Manager, select the new template's radio box and click on the "Default" button (top right).

The template will now be successfully installed, so you can proceed to the template config below...

  1. In your template install folder (yoursitename/templates/templatename/) you will find the template config file.
  2. You can edit this file with the following settings below to customise your site defaults:
    1. $menu_name = "topmenu";
      This is set to mainmenu by default, can use any Joomla menu, eg, othermenu or topmenu
    2. $top_shelf_close = 1;
      $bottom_shelf_close = 1;
      Set to 1 for open, 0 for close for default.
    3. $text_size = 0;
      Default Text/Size 0 = Smallest; 1 = Medium; 2 = X Large
    4. $color = 0;
      Default Color 0 = Red; 1 = Orange; 2 = Green; 3 = Blue
    5. $use_reflection = 1;
      Use reflection 0 = off; 1 = on

Step 2.) Setting the module options.

Quite a lot to do here, so we going to work from top page modules down to the bottom...

  1. toolbar - you need to install the custom login module:
    • From the site administration, click on installers / modules.
    • click the browse button, and navigate into your modules folder (from you extractmetemplatename.zip) and select the file loginmod.zip.
    • once selected, click the upload module and install.
    • then go to modules / site modules from the site administration, open the custom login module(mod_flexphotos_login) from the list.
    • Change the login module position to toolbar, and publish the module.
  2. top and inset - we need to copy the banner position to this position as well:
    • From the site administration, click on modules / site modules .
    • Select the banner module, and press the copy button shown on the top right.
    • Open the copied banner module, and assign it to the top position, then publish the module.
    • Open up the newsflash module, and set it to the position inset. give this module a suffix of -inset.
  3. left - To get your left sidebar menu displaying the same as on the demo site all you need to do is set the main menu module to a "flat list" where it says menu style . Remember if you want your menu to appear in the right position, you should assign your right menu a suffix of -right (this is for valid XHTML and CSS markup).
  4. footer - We are using the "Other Menu" module to act as the footer menu. All you need for this to work properly, is open the "Other Menu" module, set the module position to footer and set the menu type to flat list.
  5. User 1, User 2, User 5, User 6, User 7 and User 8 Modules - In order for these to show, just publish your own custom (or Joomla!) modules to these positions as shown above in order for them to display and be styled correctly.
  6. advert 4, advert 5 and advert 6 - go to: site admin > template manager > user positions. Add in the positions advert4, advert5 and advert6. Save the page and these module posiitons will now be available for use.
  7. advert 1, advert 2, advert 3, advert 4, advert 5 and advert 6- As above, publish your modules to these positions in order for them to be shown and styled correctly. these are for top and bottom the collapsable shelves.
